Hydrocerussite

Lead service line with litharge hydrocerussite (white) overlain by a thin layer of the PbIV oxide plattnerite, now largely flaked off. The friable nature of the plattnerite suggests it could be a source of particulate Pb at the tap. The hydrocerussite layer contains abundant diatom frustules, which came from surface reservoirs supplying the distribution system, utility 12.
