The United States agency NIST -- National Institute of Standards and Technoology, formerly known as the National Bureau of Standards -- provides many technical services, among which are the provision of analytical reference standards. The original certificates of analysis provided with these materials tended to focus on a few elements only, whereas in most analytical set-ups, it is useful to have data for all elements for all standards.

In the course of developing analytical procedures for rocks containing high Mn and Fe, we submitted an array of NIST standards to an independant analysis firm and provide the results here to extend the database for these standards.
